Landscaping in Ponto, Carlsbad

Ponto sits between Poinsettia Lane and the South Carlsbad State Beach shoreline, and the yards here take weather that inland Carlsbad never sees. Marine layer most mornings. Salt on the wind. Sandy soil that drains fast in summer and gets pushed around in winter storms.

We are Arcadian Landscape, a California C-27 licensed landscape contractor (License #978145), bonded and insured. Evan Weisman walks every Ponto property himself before we draw anything.

What salt air does to a yard

Cheap fittings fail first. We specify brass or heavy-duty plastic irrigation hardware, keep drip lines at about 30 PSI with a regulator on every valve, and choose lighting fixtures that can handle coastal moisture. Plants matter too. We lean on succulents, grasses, and coastal-tolerant shrubs that handle wind off Carlsbad Boulevard.

Sandy ground is forgiving for drainage but poor at holding nutrients, so we amend planting pockets rather than whole yards.

Hardscape on small coastal lots

Many Ponto lots are compact, so every square foot has to earn its place. We set pavers on four to six inches of compacted Class II base and design patios to sit where the sun and the evening breeze actually land. A small paver patio with a built-in fire feature often does more than a large lawn.

Retaining walls and raised planters need drainage behind them. We back them with gravel and perforated pipe so winter rain does not push them over.
