Landscape Design and Construction in Leucadia

Leucadia yards come with two things: sandy soil and old eucalyptus. Both change how we build.

The neighborhoods off North Coast Highway 101, from Leucadia Boulevard up toward Grandview, sit on loose coastal sand. It drains fast. Plants love that. Concrete and pavers do not.

Building on Leucadia's sandy coastal soil

Sand moves. For a paver patio we over-excavate and bring in six inches of compacted Class II base instead of the four we might use inland, because the native sand will not hold a load on its own. Footings for walls and posts go deeper for the same reason.

Those big eucalyptus the town fights to keep are beautiful, and they are thirsty. Their roots run shallow and wide. We route irrigation lines and footings around them and pick understory plants that tolerate the dry shade underneath.

Planting for the marine layer and Santa Ana swings

Leucadia gets the full coastal cycle. Damp marine mornings through most of late spring, then a Santa Ana that drops humidity to single digits and dries everything out in a day. We design planting that handles both, heavy on salt-tolerant and drought-tolerant material, and we run drip at around 30 PSI on a smart controller so you are not watering through the fog.

A typical Leucadia front-and-back redesign runs from the mid five figures up, depending on hardscape footage and whether we are pulling out old lawn and irrigation first. We price it honestly after we walk it.

What we build in Leucadia

Paver driveways and patios, retaining walls, drip and spray irrigation, low-voltage lighting, and full design-build renovations. We work the streets between Coast Highway 101 and Vulcan, down past Beacon's Beach and up around Grandview.

Evan designs and oversees every project himself. See our Encinitas landscaping page for the wider area, plus our paver installation and irrigation services.
