Landscape Design and Construction in La Jolla Shores
We build and plant yards a few blocks off Camino del Oro, where the salt air reaches everything. Lighting fixtures, irrigation valves, fence hardware. It all corrodes faster this close to the water.
Evan Weisman has worked coastal San Diego for over a decade. Most of our La Jolla Shores projects start the same way. A homeowner wants an outdoor room that handles the marine layer without looking tired by year two.
What the coastal soil and air do to a yard
Sandy, salty soil drains fast and holds little. We amend heavily and lean on plants that shrug off wind coming off the water. Coast rosemary, agave, westringia, and native grasses hold up near Kellogg Park better than thirsty ornamentals.
Low-voltage lighting is where people cut corners. We use marine-grade fixtures and seal every connection, because standard brass and cheap connectors pit within a season this near the beach.
Drip irrigation runs better here at 25 to 30 PSI with pressure regulation. Too much pressure blows emitters off the line. You never notice until a plant browns out in the June gloom.
Hardscape that holds up near the beach
Decomposed granite paths wash out on slopes that run toward the street. On the blocks between La Jolla Shores Drive and El Paseo Grande, we set permeable pavers on a proper base instead, so runoff drains rather than sheeting across the sidewalk.
And the coastal zone matters. Work near the bluff can trigger permit review, so we plan grading and drainage before anyone breaks ground.
What a project costs here
A full backyard redesign and build in La Jolla Shores usually runs from the mid five figures into six figures, depending on hardscape, walls, and lighting. Smaller renovations land lower. We price after we walk the site, not before.
We are a small, owner-led team. Evan is on site, not just on the contract. California Contractor License #978145, bonded and insured.
