Landscape Design and Construction in La Costa

We resurfaced a 2,400 square foot pool deck on La Costa Avenue last spring. Travertine pavers over a 4-inch concrete subgrade with a polymer-modified bond coat. The original pavers had cupped from years of pool splash and salt exposure. We pulled the failed material, leveled the substrate, and reset everything with proper expansion joints.

That is typical La Costa work. Coastal salt and pool chemistry chew through cheap material fast.

What Makes La Costa Different

La Costa sits about three miles from the coast. Salt-laden marine air drifts inland through La Costa Valley most days. Standard galvanized hardware corrodes in 18 to 24 months. We spec stainless 316 fasteners on every coastal hardscape project here.

The Omni La Costa Resort area carries restrictive HOA design review. Any front-yard work needs ARC submittal with elevations and a planting list. Aviara, La Costa Greens, and La Costa Valley have similar covenant requirements. Submittals usually take 4 to 6 weeks before construction can start.

What We Build

Most La Costa backyard remodels we run sit between $80,000 and $250,000. The price moves with hardscape footprint, pool integration, and lighting design. Front-yard renovations with drought-tolerant planting and drip irrigation come in around $18,000 to $40,000.

  • Custom landscape design with 3D renderings
  • Pavers, flagstone, and travertine hardscape
  • Retaining walls and grade work on sloped lots
  • Salt-tolerant planting plans
  • Low-voltage LED lighting design
  • Drip irrigation with smart controller installs

Local Conditions That Drive Our Specs

Coastal La Costa gets less rainfall than inland Carlsbad. Established plants here run on 30 to 50 percent less irrigation than the same species in Escondido. We install drip emitters at 0.5 to 1.0 GPH on most planting beds and adjust by exposure.

The clay-heavy soils south of La Costa Avenue need amendment. We run 2 to 3 cubic yards of gypsum per 1,000 square feet on most new beds before planting. Without it, drainage stays poor and roots stay shallow.

May Gray and June Gloom keep daytime highs in the low 70s for two months. New plantings benefit from that cool establishment window. We schedule most La Costa planting work between October and early June.

Why Owners Hire Arcadian

Evan Weisman runs design on every project. He holds a degree in Landscape Design from CSU and California Contractor License #978145 (C-27). Bonded and insured. Over a decade of work across Carlsbad, La Costa, Aviara, and the Encinitas-Carlsbad border.

We do not farm out design. We do not subcontract the build. The same team you meet on day one is on site through final walk-through. See more landscape design work or browse our hardscape projects.
